Purchase 3 used railroad ties locally (carried at most Home Depot or local landscaping supply stores). Ties are 7 inch X 9 inch X 9 feet long. Cut each tie into 3 sections with a chainsaw or circular saw. The 3 used railroad ties will yield you 9 cut tie logs to use for building your obstacles.
Put down anchor brackets and build first layer with 2-3 logs. You can use anchor brackets with 2.5 inch side or 1.5 inch side facing down depending on firmness of the ground (anchor brackets should only be used on earthen surfaces).
Slide Tight-n-Tough straps under each end of the ties as shown in the picture.
Note: You can stop here and fasten straps to build a one layer obstacle if you wish to start at the easiest level.
On top of your first layer, add two sheer brackets to build your second layer as shown in the photo. You can stop here and fasten straps to build a two layer obstacle of medium difficulty.
On top of your second layer, add two more sheer brackets to build your third layer. Now fasten straps to finish a three layer obstacle of more challenging difficulty.
You can build standard obstacles of one layer (easy difficulty), two layer (medium difficulty) or three layer (challenging difficulty) all using the dirt bike obstacle kit and three used railroad ties you procure locally.
Also remember brackets are used on each layer. Between the first layer and the ground are the two anchor brackets. Between the first and second layer are two sheer brackets and between the second and third layer are two more sheer brackets.
